4 strangest ways to wipe out plastic and make the planet better

The plastic crisis is one of the biggest challenges facing Planet Earth.

Each year, at least 14 tonnes of plastics end up in our oceans, 1 and the consequences for sea life are tragic, from choking turtles to poisoning whales. The mere solution is reducing the amount of plastic we use in daily life for our purposes, but people are also turning to technology, lateral thinking, and even other species to find the answer to the monstrous behemoth of plastic on the planet, Earth.

Here are five of the strangest solutions:

Mushrooms

Aspergillus tubingensis is a darkly pigmented species of fungus that thrives in warm habitats. It is nothing special to look at, but it has one property that has made it of key interest to scientists.

An unknown and strange species Aspergillus tubingensis is a darkly pigmented species of fungus that evolve in warm habitats. It has one property that has piqued the scientist's interest.

The significant problem with plastic is that it doesn't break down or degrade - and which is why we have probably got plastic in our bodies right now. Species eat plastic. Looking for agents that can disintegrate polymers would help vastly. They make an ample amount of plastics for human needs and that become a critical issue for the planet. The fungus could be used to break down plastic in landfill.

The Ocean Cleanup

The Great Pacific Garbage Patch is the largest accumulation of plastic in the oceans, and it sits between California and Hawaii. In 2018, it was three times bigger than France and its total amount is 80,000 tonnes.

To solve the problem you have to understand the problem. Then, Boyan Slat developed an optimal solution - Boyan Slat is an inventor who discovered the world's first cleanup ocean system. He has launched an ocean cleanup system called 'System 001'. It is an enormous, 600m long, floating, swinging collection of plastics, which collects plastic in a 3m deep skirt. The system is a solid instead of a net. So, sea life is protected.

A garbage truck ship will collect the plastic every few months. Using computer simulations and scale models. Also, the group tested and trialed the system. Slat has received both praise and criticism feedback for his invention but, currently, it is a case of wait and sees what will be next. No one knows what is going to happen. Slat believed that the ambitious idea of his first innovation is now proven technology.

Can roads make from plastic?

Another great idea was PlasticRoad has been applied in the Dutch city of Zwolle made of recycled plastic. It is an innovative way of re-using plastic bottles, cup sits, and packaging instead of burning them or putting them in a landfill. The road uses an estimated 70% recycled, but it is made in a way that looks like the subsequent version plan to use 100% recycled plastic. PlasticRoasd is more durable than paving, takes less time to make, and requires less heavy equipment. The first road in Zwolle is 30m long and contains the recycled plastic of over 218,000 plastic cups or 500,000 plastic bottle caps.

Seaweed instead of plastic

The battle against plastic that had banned several times but it did not make even a slight change. Everyone is finding the solution to this critical issue. For this, engineers and designers search for other materials that can be used for packaging foodstuffs. Bioplastics are made from renewable biomass, usually vegetable, fruits, cassava, starch, or any food waste. Seaweed, however, is the solution used by an Indonesian start-up called Evoware. The company works with local seaweed farmers that make sandwich and burger wraps, sachets for flavoring and coffee, and soap packaging, all made out of seaweed. It easily dissolves in hot water or, to reduce waste to zero, the packaging is also edible. Sustainable and nutritious.

Considering all this, we humans rely so much on a range of using plastics. Have become addicted to using packaged products. We need to reduce using plastic bags as possible we can. By doing this, we are not just saving the environment but the planet where we exist.

I am going to leave powerful words that may hit you harder -

Plastic pollution does not start in the middle of ocean; [it] does not start on the shores or in over river: it starts on land, Solution should be found on land, its source
