5 strategies to enhance productivity and Work/life harmony
Some work from home, and some are struggling to commute each day. Many have children or pets to tend to; some are employees answering to a boss, while others are the boss dealing with their employees. Some of us work from home others make the dreaded commute each day. There are meetings, parties, job interviews, school concerts, family emergencies, sporting events, health crises, and more, all wreaking havoc with our careful planning.
Striking a balance between your personal and work life can be a challenging task, it doesn’t have to be. Avoid these five disastrous things that will help you from achieving that difficult work-life balance.
1. Being a perfectionist
Nothing is perfect in the whole universe. Everyone wants to become perfect in all aspects of life, and you are way too hard on yourself.
If you are trying to accomplish ten goals, You may lose four or five goals without feeling about it. You are your own worst critic. Realizing that at the same time, some of the balls will drop. Instead of over judge yourself take a step back and be okay with micro losses.
In the true sense, Being a perfectionist is an illusion. From nature to humans, everything is filled with flaws and perfectionism.
You have to embrace this beautiful fact:
It is okay not to be okay. Accept your drawbacks ( work on that) and strength (be confident) The only thing that matters.
2. Cross borders & Boundaries
The first step in solving any problem is acknowledging the reality of your situation. There are ample people out there, who hate their job and struggle to pursue their only dream and live their life based on society.
We should understand the importance of self-awareness in our lives. Everyone carries a thought of "what other people think or say" It can weaken your connection with your loved ones and you completely lose the meaning of living life. Self-awareness is ultimate in our society lately. Blurred work-life boundaries are linked to emotional exhaustion. This is more relevant than ever amidst the massive shift to remote work-from-home scenarios.
For example, Sheena is a high-achieving lawyer who takes great pride in her work. However, he often stays extra late hours in his home office, compulsively checking emails and neglecting quality time with her family. She is regularly stressed and constantly thinking about new clients and cases from when she wakes up to when she goes to bed.
You are getting to indulge in professional life and give your “my time” to others. The result is you are getting older and will miss this joyous life.
What do you have to do?
First, think about yourself for a while. About your health, happiness, and moment you can create with your beloved and yourself.
Create boundaries and stick to them. There should be a certain time each day that you cease doing for everyone else and focus on recharging for the next day. Read a book, take a shower, or watch your favorite television show. Just be.
People will treat you how you allow them to treat you — this rings true in ALL are of life.
3. Reacting to everything immediately.
You don’t have to answer each email or return each phone message as it comes in.
Prioritize. It means setting something at the top of a ranking system. One of the effective habits that I have been following for the last two years is to prioritize my tasks and what is important to accomplish at any rate. Each night, I create a list of the top things that I need to get done the following day or before sleep. Not only this, schedule a time to read and reply to emails or something else. You can also schedule time for social media which can be a huge distraction. Create a system that works for you and stick to it.
Set top two or three goals in a day
Pick one and stabilize your concentration on it
Mark on your calendar
Go after one another to accomplish before sleep
Be consistent, productive and stick with them
KEEP THIS IN MIND: Don’t ruin your hours by thinking about the result, one thing that makes you feel productive and energized - ENJOY THE PROCESS.
Now, you are good to go!
4. Mistaking business for productivity.
Being busy day and night is not a big deal in your workplace. It hardly matters. Skipping holidays, avoiding family, and staying up all night makes you feel burned out. There is no use for it. Productivity is about getting important things done effectively. People might take health for granted. Therefore, they face uncertainties, discomfort, anxiety, or laziness. Shift your eyes on some of these viable tips to boost your productivity:
Habit stacking
Accountability
Stop multitasking
Set micro instead of macro
Accomplish hardest goals
Make great consistency
Cut the distraction around you
If you are busy, you need to focus on automating what you can, outsourcing what you can, and making better use of your time.
5. Keep it personal and professional
You need to draw a thin line between your work and family.
Taking a hard and honest look at your habits might be hard, but it’s essential. You need to be present at home with home and family issues just as much as you need to leave those issues at home when you’re at work. Your family needs to understand when you have a deadline that must be met.
I am going to end with one eye-opener quote:
Never get so busy making a living that you forget to make your life.
