How Meta's First Data Centre in India is Changing the Game for Short Video Features?

Meta Platforms, the social networking giant, is considering setting up its first data centre in India. The move is aimed at meeting the growing demand for its short video feature Reels in the world's second-largest internet market.

According to the source, Meta platforms may start a practical study of the project in the first quarter of 2024.


Experts predict that the cost of setting up a Tier-4 data centre in India could range between Rs500-1,200 crore. Such investment is anticipated to help the social media giant make the experience unique for Indian consumers.

It also considers that short video feature Reels in India are not the trend but establish a new revolution of creators in India, Instagram is the perfect example that comes into our mind which is known as the reels.

Instagram also has become a popular platform in the country, especially after the Indian government banned TikTok in 2020.


Since then, Instagram has introduced Reels on Facebook as well allowing users to watch and create video clips from other remarkable creators.


According to Sensor Tower, a mobile app intelligence firm, the rival of Instagram and TikTok to secure the spot for two quarters during the year in terms of total global downloads in 2023. In 2023, Instagram became one of the most downloaded Android apps with 270.3 million app installs, listed on top with it


The data centre industry in India is expected to attract $10 billion in investment within the next three years, registering a 40% growth from the last three years.
