In 2023, Indian cinema had a remarkable year, with massive records for various movies and live events via

BookMyShow. During Independence Day week, 10.9 million people booked cinema tickets, marking a surge in entertainment passion. Notably, 1.6 million were frequent cinema viewers. Films like "Jawan".

"Pathaan," and "Gadar 2" were among the favourites, with a record-breaking 2.8 million tickets sold on August 13 alone. Cities like Mumbai and Hyderabad attracted moviegoers even late at night, while weekdays accounted for 37% of cinema visits.


Single-screen cinemas saw a 40% boost in business due to successful movies like "Gadar 2" and "Jawan." Hindi cinema flourished with diverse genres, and smaller towns showed increased interest, reviving the single-screen experience.

Mumbai, Hyderabad, Delhi-NCR, Bengaluru, and Chennai led in entertainment attendance, welcoming audiences for movies, live events, and on-demand videos via BookMyShow Stream. Non-metros, particularly Ahmedabad, witnessed significant entertainment growth.


Live events had 13.5 million attendees, showing an 82% rise in international events. BookMyShow Live attracted a larger premium event-going audience. Solo live entertainment experiences saw nearly a million participants.

Gen Z and millennials formed the majority of live entertainment attendees. Notable global events attracted travellers, and tier-two cities like Lucknow and Bhubaneswar emerged as significant markets, marking a 225% growth in ticket sales.


BookMyShow Stream premiered over 2,200 titles, with top favorites like "Everyone Everywhere All At Once" and "Transformers: Rise of the Beasts," across various genres and languages.
