Is Apple Finally Expanding its TV App to Android Phones?

Apple is expanding its reach into video streaming by seeking a senior engineer to develop Android's television and sports apps. This move indicates a shift in strategy as Apple aims to attract more users beyond its iOS platform and compete with major players like Netflix and Disney.

Despite its rivalry with Android, Apple is now looking to tap into the vast user base of the operating system, which powers over 3 billion devices globally, compared to Apple's 2.2 billion active devices, mostly iPhones.

Apple has previously focused on offering its services exclusively on its own devices, such as smart TVs, Roku, and Amazon streaming devices, the decision to develop an Android app for its TV service demonstrates a change in approach. This signals a potential shift in Apple's attitude towards expanding its services to a wider audience, as evidenced by its recent launch of the standalone version of Music, TV, and device management.

The company's TV service, launched in 2019, has been a significant investment focusing on original content and a recent price increase to $9.99 a month.

Despite this, Apple has not disclosed the number of subscribers or the revenue generated by the service. By venturing into the Android market, Apple aims to gain a larger video streaming market share and attract more viewers to its platform. This move also raises the possibility of Apple further expanding its services beyond its ecosystem in the future.
