It's Friday: What's The Fact About Four-Days Working?

"Thank God, it's Friday", would say every working professional employee who works five days a week. That would once reflect on Friday, relief about the impending weekend-no meetings, no calls, no deadlines. But, over time, as work overload on weekends became routine, it significantly fizzled you out.

Between June and December, the world's largest four-day workweek trial, including 61 companies and around 2,900 workers, took place in the UK, ending with a whopping 92 per cent of the participating companies. Eighty among them have confirmed the policy is acceptable.

Several employees, especially those working in media houses, and marketing firms, don't have a four-day workweek. The idea of four days working is best or not because we are barely able to make it through a five-day workweek. I am sure we will still have to work over the weekend, again without any overtime compensation instead of two days, Even though, we would be doing three days of free work. That's, even more, worse than this.

If you work four or five days of working, you'll be more gratifying and less worry about the tasks. It fairly enhances your work-life balance.

The four-day week is also impossible for some companies, agencies, and work area such as the hospital sector, especially because entertainment, leisure, and travel are things that people take up over weekends and holidays, and that make sense. The travel and hospitality industry is a general need for customers. It is difficult to imagine how such an industry works four days a week. On the other side, desk jobs or central functions could take advantage of a four-day workweek to maintain high productivity at certain companies.

Therefore, it does not necessary to work a 4-day work week in India. Some other employees research firms believe that gazing at screens for long hours is harmful to many employees, and a curtailed work week will reduce it to a great extent. If I get one extra day, apart from the weekend, I can spend it pursuing my hobbies and crafting my knacks. A four-day workweek makes a positive impact on the work-life balance.

Employees want shorter work weeks. Employers want happier, healthier, more productive employees. Is the four-day workweek a win-win?

Along with the robots, a shorter work week is coming. This will continue a historical trend towards shorter working hours, driven by technological progress and labour rights. The two-day weekend, after all, is only about a century old.

The idea is popular with workers. Some companies have trialled a four-day week, employees with longer weekends are less stressed and as productive even more so. Happier workers translate into less employee turnover and fewer sick days, as well as more satisfied customers.

Four-day workweek would need to be accompanied by smart policies to produce all the environmental and health benefits without significantly reducing the quality of life. These policies could include free recreational and cultural activities. Whether that takes the form of no pay cuts, a higher minimum wage, or a universal basic income.
