Understanding the Latest Visa Changes for Indian Travelers
During the summer holiday season, you have to be updated on the latest visa rules to ensure a smooth and hassle-free travel experience. Here are the four key visa updates to keep in mind in 2024:
1. Japan introduces eVisas for Indian travellers
Starting from April, Japan will be offering eVisa applications for Indian citizens. The process will be managed by Japan Visa Application Centers operated by VFS Global. The eVisa is designed for short-term tourism, offering a single-entry option allowing stays of up to 90 days. Both Indian citizens and foreign nationals residing in India are eligible to apply. The eVisas will be issued electronically, and travellers must present a visa issuance notice on their mobile device at the airport. The visa fee is Rs 500.
2. Romania and Bulgaria can now issue Schengen visas
Romania and Bulgaria have partially joined the Schengen Area, allowing them to issue Schengen visas to foreign travellers. This permits stays of up to 90 days within 180 days. However, visas issued by these two countries before April 1 won't grant access to the entire Schengen area.
3. Dubai’s five-year, multiple-entry tourist visa:
Dubai has introduced a five-year, multiple-entry visa option for Indian travellers, allowing stays of up to 90 days in the country, extendable once. The visa is suitable for both business and leisure trips and offers unlimited entries and exits within five years. Requirements include a passport photo, a valid passport for at least six months, bank statements, health insurance, and round-trip flight tickets. No sponsor is required for the application.
4. Stricter student visa rules for international students in Australia
Australia has tightened rules on student visas, introducing a Genuine Student Test and a No Further Stay clause, which limits work options for foreign students. Higher English proficiency requirements will also be imposed for both immigrant students and graduate visas.
