There's no need to protect your history on Google Drive backups. This upcoming update is set to simplify the process for Android users, making it more efficient and user-friendly.
The QR code-based transfer method, currently part of the latest beta version (2.24.9.19), allows users to move chat data directly between devices. When upgrading to a new phone, WhatsApp will generate a QR code on the old device containing all chat history and data. Users can easily start the chat transfer by scanning this QR code with the new device.

This new method addresses a long-standing inconvenience for Android users who previously had to back up and restore conversations via Google Drive. The QR code system is more straightforward and eliminates several steps from the process.
However, some details are still pending, such as whether both services need to be logged into WhatsApp during the transfer or if the QR code also helps with signing in on the new device. The time it takes to transfer data may also vary depending on the amount of data being moved to the right place. Recently, this feature has been available in the beta version through the Google Play Store, but the beta program is full, so new users might have to wait until the feature is officially released the update. While there is no exact timeline for its public rollout, its presence in the beta stage suggests it could be available soon.
