X Marks the Spot: Elon Musk's Latest Innovation Unveils Free Audio and Video Calls
Elon Musk's social media platform, X, previously known as Twitter has announced that it is rolling out a new feature that will allow users to make audio and video calls without the need to share their phone number or subscribe to X Premium. This feature was earlier only available to X Premium subscribers, but now it is available to all users could make it a challenging competitor to rivals like WhatsApp.

Enrique Barragan, an X engineer, revealed the news on the social media platforms. He mentioned that X is slowly rolling out audio and video calling to non-premium users. However, calls can only be received from accounts that users follow or have in their address book, and both accounts must have interacted via DM at least once. But users can adjust the settings to change who can call them, from just the people they follow to anyone on the platform.

Previously, X had only made this feature available to iOS users, and only those with a valid X Premium subscription. However, earlier this year, X decided to offer the calling feature on its Android application as well, but it was still restricted to Premium subscribers.
To make a call on X, users should open the X-App on their Android or iOS smartphone and navigate to the DM section. Then click on the phone icon and select whether to make an audio or video call to start a conversation.
The recipient will receive a notification that someone is trying to call them. Users can change who can call them by navigating to the Settings option in the top right corner.
